REGIONAL STORMWATER MANAGEMENT INFORMATION:
Green Country Stormwater Alliance (GCSA)
History of the Stormwater Management Program: ln 1990, EPA began the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit process to address non-point sources of pollution. Phase I covered industrial sites and construction sites over 5 acres and municipalities over 100,000 (Tulsa and Oklahoma City).
ln 2003, EPA issued Phase ll regulations that require NPDES permits for stormwater discharges from certain small municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) and construction activity generally disturbing between one and five acres (Jenks).
The MS4 permit for small communities became effective on February 8, 2005. All storm water general permits require the permittee to complete, implement and maintain a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). The SWPPP has to meet the requirements set forth in the general permit and must be tailored to meet the specific site's specifications and requirements.
ln 2005, City of Jenks developed a Storm Water Management Plan and received Authorization to Discharge, effective December 8, 2005. Permits are reissued every five years.
GETTING A STORM WATER PERMIT: For information regarding the storm water program, visit Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
DRUG TAKE-BACK PROGRAM: A drug disposal box is located in the Jenks Police Department lobby for residents to dispose of unwanted medications. The Drug Take Back Program provides residents the opportunity to dispose of old, unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter items safely, rather than flushing down the toilet or drain where they could possibly contaminate water supplies and endanger animal life.
