CONSERVING WATER & SAVING MONEY
Everyone wants to help conserve valuable resources, and water is one of the most valuable there is. We could not live without it. Follow our water saving tips below to help conserve water and save money |

SHOWERS & BATHS |
BRUSHING TEETH |
WAHING MACHINES |
OUTSIDE WATERING |
Check every faucet in your home for leaks. A slow drip can waste thousands of gallons per year. |
Put a bit of food coloring in each toilet tank. Without flushing, watch for a few minutes to see if the color shows up in the bowl. It is not uncommon to lose up to 100 gallons per day from one of these otherwise invisible toilet leaks. That can add up to over 30,000 gallons per year. |
Showers use less water than baths. On average, a bath requires 23 gallons of water while a shower requires only 12 gallons. Save more water by turning off the shower to soap up. Also water conserving shower heads may be available at home and hardware stores. However, if you enjoy baths, only fill the tub with 5 inches of water. If you enjoy showers, try to limit your showers to five minutes. |
Turn off the faucet while you are brushing your teeth. Leaving the water running uses up to 40 gallons per week or 2,080 additional gallons per year. |
Only use dish and clothes washing machines with full loads. Even with machines featuring short cycles, it is more water efficient to wait until you have a full load. |
Water early or late not in the heat of the day. Avoid windy days. See that water goes where it should, not on sidewalks, streets, or driveways. Insert a spade into the ground to make sure that water is getting down deep. A single lawn sprinkler spraying five gallons per minute uses 50% more water in just one hour than combination of ten toilet flushes, two five minute showers, two dishwasher loads, and a full load of clothes. |

Sanitary Sewer
The sewer charges to single family residential users during the summer months billing cycles of July, August and September will be calculated using their metered water usage as reflected on the prior billing statement received during the preceding month of June. If usage should drop during any of these months, then the lower usage is used to calculate the sewer bill.
Sanitation and Sewage Treatment
Jenks has an oxidation ditch, activated sludge system of treatment. The city’s sewage treatment system is currenlty operating at approximately 80% of capacity. |
